in 1981 that I had'nt seen on Cape Cod
that made a lasting impression on my life:
1)Highway interchanges that were big enough to enter/exit without slowing down to walking speed.
2)Highway interchanges being illuminated at night by gigantic 100ft lighting towers
so big that you could hold 2 softball + 2 football games under.
3) Cement for highway pavement, you'll never forget the sound.
4) Rest areas designed to look like dream palaces.
5) Shoney's Big Boy/Denny's/White Castle/White Tower/ Howard Johnson's
outside of Plymouth, Hyannis, + B.Bay
6) A Bar actually named "B+E Tavern" in Laurel, Md.
7) A town named Savage (next to laurel)
8) A female employee of a Beltsville drive-in patrolling the back area of
the drive-in with a baseball bat + companion.
9)NSA building at Ft Meade wrapped in copper sheeting and my dad telling
me the guards at NSA carry Uzi's...."stay outta there!"
10)Redneck Bar "Woody's" at Rt. 32 + Wash. Blvd in Savage, Md
11)Gas Station mechanic dumb enough to leave my alternator
wire unplugged after installing a new one....I only needed
him as I did'nt have the tools.
12) The three most excruciating words Maryland offers: Tastee Diner Inn
http://
13) Crab this and crab that...me being vegetarian, it was kinda gross.
14)55-gal drum stove used to heat garage, and discovering that you're
not supposed to throw used oil filters in them.
15)Pep Boys Automoive...great matchbooks with little illustrations
depicting "Manny, Moe, & Jack."
16)Amtrak commuter train local service to Wash DC...they really are cool looking
trains + quiet as mouse w/overhead electric lines.
17)Best Western Hotel (not recommended)
18)Learning cement for bridge foundations takes 6 months to set.
19)Mother-of-Pearl "Head Shop" Laurel,Md and biker chick who ran it.
20) Security cops running through Laurel Mall.
21) Counties named after princes.
22)Highway forbidden to trucks --BW Parkway.
23)Place George Wallace was shot, Laurel Mall parking lot.
24)Baby Jukeboxes at every table (Tastee Diner)
25)Yes, you actually can make coffee or tea white with
those tiny, tiny cream things the waitress gave you...just try.
26)Moron recalling rare racetrack win very loudly in nightclub.
27)Missed being in a bar by 45sec, where a man had pulled a gun.
He did'nt do much but make drunken threats.
28)Md. State Trooper at BWI airport with marksman's badges
but he was wearing glasses....?
29)Actor Richard Thomas --John-boy from "The Waltons"-- walking through
BWI Airport with two 7ft guys on either side, talking, joking, and
not even considering the fact that I was nothing but an insect to them.
30)A drunken man accost me at my nightclub job for runninng a noisy
vacuum cleaner 20ft from a bar, while cleaning the dancing area.
Since I had full authority to do so, he did not prevail.
31) People's Drug store-- Laurel Mall. Something about "peoples"
kinda gave it a communist feel to it, but it was pretty normal.
